As for the rest of you question......where you install programs to after the Vista install is up to you.most programs nowadays give you a choice but you will still find a few that just want to install onto the C :/Programs folder..no choice. If you are aiming to use the 3rd drive for strictly backup don't do RAID.

That is why I would like to install VISTA in a second partition on the RAID volume. I'm thinking if I like it I will keep it and eventually format the current MCE2005 partition. If I don't like VISTA or if it causes too many problems, I'll remove it from the computer and install it on a different computer.
