Dont install vista

If you're asking why you shouldnt install a beta you really need hitting twice around the head:
1. This is an operating system, 80% of you will format your old hard drive in an attempt to get windows vista beta onto it
2. This is microsoft, there're countless bugs in vista at least one of which i assure you you'll find.

Why am I telling you this? Because it occured to me, as windows vista completely "f'd" up on installation that had I not had a test machine i'd have lost windows XP and all my files etc.
Things I noticed about vista;
Did boot from startup but because these microsoft "egghead" tried to be funky about the installation screen it failed (exact reason unknown, but trying to run a more sophisticated installation program in semi-dos is just plain stupid)
After several failed attempts trying to copy files from the dvd to the hard drive (errors in between "sorry dude, we couldnt quite sort out copying files from a dvd disc to a hard drive, we only went over it once in microsoft school")
Tried doing a "straightforward" upgrade from windows xp, had all the necessary requirments for it but vista just didnt want to install.
My
advice: Stay well clear, this is just a big scheme by windows to try and get feedback on how the OS works. As soon as my errors occured windows tried to send a message back to its makers "we failed miserby lords, we couldnt even copy ourselves onto the users hard drive"

Gosh, my experience was just the opposite of yours.
What hardware do have exactly?
What steps did you take to install Vista, exactly?
Give it a few more tries just for fun. Playing around with the different Linux distros, I have had many failures-- more than I can count-- but eventually got it down fairly well. I think this Vista Beta is far better than any of those and was easy to install if you can work out any kinks in the the steps you are taking.
Sorry it didn't go well.

And you made a point. The beta mistakenly led you to believe your message didn't get through the first time around, so now we have to read the same message twice.

Maybe he had a corrupt download or the iso didn't burn properly. If I had a nickel for every post blaming MS for everything that goes wrong because after all it's much easier to blame the so called "evil empire" than to admit maybe i'm clueless or just plain screwed up.

hmm. LOL
This is an OPEN BETA TEST. Did you expect to have a fully functional operating system? The purpose of a BETA/BETA TEST is for people to use the software and report bugs so that the software makes can document and fix them. It is impossible to develope software (of any considerable function) without a beta test phase. There is no way for the devs to run across every possible senario. That is why MS has opened this beta to the public to get more feedback to make the OS better and more stable than previous versions.
If you did not want to/was not technically capable of troubleshooting problems and bugs and reporting them to MS then you should not have downloaded the beta to begin with. Jon

Joeymx used his keyboard to write :

You shouldn't install a beta if you don't understand the purpose of beta software.
